Silas's Camping Themed First Birthday Party

can't believe this kiddo of mine is one! We celebrated on his actual birthday and really went all out. So much so, that Nick is saying it's Silas's first and last party.  I tried really hard to not do my typical procrastinating for this party.  As always, I was running around right up until the last minute, still readying myself as guests were arriving. However, this party actual turned out just as I had hoped, due to some very atypical planning ahead and a lot of help from my family. I'm going to walk you through the party with a little play-by-play....just what you were hoping for.

First up, the invitations...
Tiny Prints for the win! These invitations were perfect for our theme.

Our party started at 5:30, which meant we needed to provide dinner.  So, we served a typical camping dinner, complete with hot dogs and sausages, baked beans, coleslaw, and watermelon. The decorations were fun and easy.  I made a pinecone garland, printed a bunch of pictures, pulled out some Christmas decorations and camping equipment and threw it all together.  The final touch was the metal print of Silas, which was also from Tiny Prints, and completed the look perfectly. I also love that now I get to hang it in my house and have it forever. For dessert, we had s'mores (duh), peanut butter bars and the cutest cake possible, made by my sister, Kim. She's just a little talented.Hold up. We're going to take a little break here to ooh and awe over the birthday boy in his birthday outfit.
Back to the decorations.  At the last minute, I decided to do this time capsule to have guests write little notes to Silas for him to read when he turns 18. That's what happens when I go on Pinterest the night before the party. I also decided to create a hashtag for Silas's party, in case anyone wanted to instagram any pictures.  My sister whipped up a sign for that.
I made knapsacks as favors for the kids, stuffed with 99 cent store toys, then tied with tags that had stickers of Silas on them...also from Tiny Prints. Notice a theme?  For the adults, we had baked s'mores bars (made by my wonderful aunt) in goodie bags with the same tags. We also set up an archery game, which was played by a grand total of zero people.  I made little arrows from sticks and felt and created a bullseye in photoshop that Costco printed for cheap.
Okay, let's get to the fun part. Smash cake time! Silas did not disappoint. And neither did my sister, with another ridiculously amazing cake. Seriously...that campfire!

Since my mom and Silas share a birthday, we made sure to sing to her as well, especially since this was her 60th! And, my sister made a THIRD cake for her. While we sang to my mom, Silas stayed busy with his cake.Let's close this thing out with a few more decorations and some guest pictures. The kiddos with their knapsacks. Silas was so done with the night. And that's a wrap!
